Why is pointe bad for feet
Minor injuries like blisters, bunions, and corns, can develop sinuses and become ulcers. So taking time off is something most professional dancers will not do. Toe pads, wraps, and moleskin are temporary solutions used to alleviate some of the pain from blisters and corns. As mentioned earlier, the continued time spent dancing with these minor injuries leads to the shocking pictures like the ones above.
See a podiatrist or medical professional immediately. One of my best friends dances ballet and she frequently complains about broken toenails and pains in her toenails.
However, the problems that professional dancers face are often even worse. Ballet dancers often have problems with their feet because female dancers wear pointe shoes. Despite their delicate appearance, pointe shoes are incredibly sturdy. I find pointe to be absolutely beautiful but find it sad that there are so many health risks associated with them it. This was an interesting post. I have several good friends who have been dancing since they could walk and dancing en pointe since they were in middle school— maybe even earlier.
While the style is visually striking and beautiful, I definitely think you have a valid point in bringing up the health risks. Was this topic picked from experience? Were you a dancer, too? You must be logged in to post a comment.
Sites at Penn State. Pointe dancers where pointe shoes a special ballet slipper with a block of wood at the point that help them to fully elevate and balance. While a dramatic curve sounds lovely, a foot in an old shoe actually ends up too stretched. The foot curves too much at the ankle, and too much at the arch.
The ligaments of the foot may take the brunt of this misalignment. Wearing old pointe shoes may cause the ligaments that run between the metatarsals, the five long bones along the length of the foot, to stretch too much. Also, the ligaments that stabilize the ankle could stretch or tear, resulting in a strain.
